Lean hog futures are trading with contracts holding near unchanged, with nearby gains of a nickel to losses of a tick. USDA’s national base hog price was at $89.65 in the Friday AM report. The CME Lean Hog Index was down another 28 cents on August 26 at $92.14.
USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was back up $1.36 in the Friday morning report, at $95.16. The picnic was the only primal reported lower. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Thursday at 486,000 head, with the week to date total at 1.901 million head. That is 28,000 head below the previous week and down 1,679 head from the same week last year.
