Soybeans closed Thursday with contracts up 1 to 2 ¼ cents on the day. The cmdtyView national average Cash Bean price is up 2 3/4 cents at $12.32 1/2. Soymeal futures were steady to $1.60 higher on the day, with Soy Oil back up 32 to 80 points.
Following reports that the EPA was looking to approve additional small refinery exemptions this week, Reuters reported that the White House is contemplating an increase of quotas for 2027 by 500 million gallons to offset the higher than originally thought exemptions. Nothing has been officially announced by the administration.
The weekly Export Sales report showed 73,913 MT of 2025/26 soybean sales during the week of 8/20. That was a 3-week low as we approach the end of the marketing year. Egypt was the largest buyer of 105,000 MT, with 66,300 MT sold to Indonesia, as Unknown buyers cancelled 169,500 MT, with most switched to a buyer. New crop sales were reported at 2.478 MMT, a marketing year high and more than double the same week last year. China was the largest buyer of 1.1 MMT, with 1.046 MMT to unknown destinations. Accumulated 2026/27 sales have totaled 14.334 MMT, which is nearly double the same time last year and the 4th largest for the current week in the last 10 years.
Soy meal sales were tallied at 427,480 MT, which was in the middle of the estimated range of 200,000 to 800,000 MT, with 104,702 MT for the current marketing year and 322,778 MT for next MY. Bean oil business was pegged at 360 MT for the current marketing year, and 0 MT for 2026/27, with combined sales falling in the middle of the expected range of between net cancellations of 2,000 to net sales of 17,000 MT.
European Commission data showed EU soybean imports for 2026/27 at 14.5 MMT, which was up 0.6 MMT from last month’s estimate.
