Cotton futures were up 1 to 7 points in the front months on Friday, with contracts down 8 points to 20 points higher. December was up 355 points on the week. Crude oil was down 19 cents with the US dollar index $0.063 lower.
Commitment of Traders data showed managed money adding another 5,798 contracts to their net long in cotton futures and options during the week ending on August 18. That net long stood at 78,668 contracts on Tuesday.
Export Sales data from Thursday now has the 2026/27 cotton export commitments at 4.235 million RB, which is 31% above last year. That is also 37% of the USDA export projection and lags the 43% averages sales pace but is ahead of the 29% pace from last year.
The Cotlook A Index was back up 300 points on August 20 at 98.90 cents. ICE certified cotton stocks were steady on Thursday, with the certified stocks level at 70,643 bales. The Seam reported just 55 bales sold in the 8/20 auction at 81.6 cents/lb. The Adjusted World Price was raised by 143 points on Thursday to 69.62 cents/lb.
