Lean hog futures are showing losses of 15 cents to $1.12 on the Thursday session. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $92.75 in the Thursday AM report, up 51 cents from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down another 82 cents on August 18 at $93.96.
Weekly Export Sales data showed 27,275 MT of pork sold for 2026 in the week ending on August 13, a 5-week low. Shipments were pegged at 27,820 MT, also a 5-week low.
USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was back up 38 cents in the Thursday morning report, at $97.96. The rib, ham, and belly primals were reported lower. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Wednesday at 476,000 head, with the weekly total at 1.436 million head. That is 14,000 head above the previous week and down 619 head from the same week last year.
