Lean hog futures rounded out the Tuesday session with contracts down $1 to $1.77 at the close. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $93.52 on Tuesday afternoon, up 90 cents from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down 21 cents on August 14 at $95.47.
USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was back up 37 cents in the Tuesday PM report, at $99.12. The picnic primal was the only reported lower. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Tuesday at 476,000 head, with the weekly total at 960,000. That is 22,000 head above the previous week and just up 791 head from the same week last year.
