Lean hog futures are trading with contracts falling $1.35 to $2.12. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $94.37 on Tuesday morning, up $2.69 from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down 21 cents on August 14 at $95.47.
USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was back up 99 cents in the Tuesday AM report, at $99.74. The picnic primal was the only reported lower. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Monday at 484,000 head. That is 19,000 head above the previous week and up 4,020 head from the same week last year.
