Lean hog futures were mostly steady to 32 cents higher, as October was a tick higher. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $92.62 on Monday afternoon, down 68 cents from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down 19 cents on August 13 at $95.68.
USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was back down $1.15 in the Monday PM report, at $98.76. The picnic primal was the only reported higher. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Monday at 484,000 head. That is 19,000 head above the previous week and up 4,020 head from the same week last year.
