Alphabet (GOOG) (GOOGL) stock has pulled back after a strong rally, with shares now trading about 16% below their 52-week high. However, at least one analyst has set a $515 price target for Alphabet stock, the highest target on the Street. Reaching that level would represent roughly 50% upside from the stock’s recent closing price of $343.54.
The greatest challenge to the bull case is Alphabet’s rising capital expenditures, as the company continues to invest heavily in artificial intelligence (AI), cloud infrastructure, and computing capacity. Higher spending could pressure near-term free cash flow and margins.
Still, Alphabet’s bull case remains compelling. Here are three reasons why GOOGL stock has a realistic shot at reaching $515.
Reason #1: Alphabet’s Ad Revenue Is Soaring
Alphabet’s heavy investment in AI has raised concerns about costs and weighed on investor sentiment. However, its AI strategy is strengthening the company’s core advertising business. The tech giant’s total advertising revenue increased 14% in Q2, with growth across all major advertising categories.
Google Search and other advertising revenue rose 17% to $63.3 billion, while YouTube advertising revenue increased 13% to $11.1 billion.
Search remains Alphabet’s largest revenue engine, and AI is helping it become more engaging. AI-powered search features are encouraging users to interact more with Google, increasing both engagement and search activity. More searches create more opportunities for Alphabet to serve relevant ads.
Also, Alphabet continues to accelerate the deployment of Gemini across its entire ad infrastructure to boost performance. For advertisers, better AI-driven tools can translate into stronger returns on ad spending, which helps sustain demand for Google’s advertising products.
With AI continuing to improve the Search experience and deliver better outcomes for advertisers, Alphabet is likely to maintain strong ad growth even as year-over-year (YoY) comparisons become more challenging.
That makes the continued strength of the advertising business an important reason to remain constructive on Alphabet’s long-term growth outlook.
Reason #2: Accelerating Cloud Business to Power GOOGL Stock Higher
Alphabet’s accelerating cloud business is strengthening the growth and profitability case for GOOGL. The company spent $44.9 billion on capital expenditures in Q2, primarily on data centers, servers, and networking infrastructure to expand its AI capabilities. It also raised its full-year capex guidance, signaling that management expects sustained demand for AI infrastructure.
The investment is already translating into stronger Cloud results. Google Cloud revenue increased 82% YoY to $24.8 billion in Q2, accelerating from 63% growth in Q1. Growth was driven by higher demand for Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AI infrastructure, and AI solutions.
More importantly, Cloud is becoming significantly more profitable. Operating income reached $8.8 billion, more than tripling from a year earlier, while the operating margin expanded from 20.7% to 35.6%. The segment’s rapid revenue growth and expanding margins improve the earnings contribution from the Cloud business.
Future growth also looks well supported. Cloud’s backlog rose by more than $50 billion from the previous quarter to $514 billion, giving Alphabet greater visibility into future revenue. The company also began recognizing revenue from TPU systems delivered to customers’ data centers in Q2. Importantly, Cloud revenue growth remained strong even without the contribution from these TPU sales.
With continued demand for GCP, AI infrastructure, and enterprise AI solutions, Google Cloud is positioned for further growth. The combination of accelerating revenue, stronger margins, and a growing backlog provides a solid foundation for the bullish case for GOOGL stock.
Reason #3: Alphabet Stock’s Valuation Appears Compelling
Alphabet’s businesses continue to grow at a healthy pace. Google Cloud is accelerating, led by AI with expanding profitability. At the same time, advertising revenue is soaring, while AI is improving engagement across Search. In addition, a growing Cloud backlog and stronger TPU-related revenue indicate that Alphabet’s AI spending positions it to deliver solid growth ahead.
Despite these growth prospects, Alphabet trades at a forward P/E ratio of just 17.4, below peers such as Microsoft (MSFT) and Amazon (AMZN). More importantly, the valuation appears reasonable relative to Alphabet’s expected growth and expanding AI opportunity. Its solid fundamentals and a comparatively modest valuation make the stock attractive.
Conclusion
Alphabet’s path to $515 is supported by resilient advertising growth, accelerating and increasingly profitable Cloud operations, and a valuation that remains reasonable relative to its growth prospects. While elevated AI spending could pressure near-term free cash flow, the strong returns from Search, Cloud, and AI infrastructure suggest the $515 price target looks achievable.
Analysts are bullish and maintain a “Strong Buy” consensus rating on GOOGL stock.
