Lean hog futures are trading with 5 to 90 cent losses across most contracts at midday. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $93.03 on Friday morning, up $4.25 from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down a nickel on August 12 at $95.87.
USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was back down $1.53 in the Friday AM report, at $100.45. The belly primal was the only reported lower. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Thursday at 484,000 head, with the weekly total at 1.906 million head. That is 44,000 head above the previous week but down 11,165 head from the same week last year.
