On a per-share basis, the Santa Clara, California-based company said it had net income of 54 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 48 cents per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 16 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 47 cents per share.
The chipmaker posted revenue of $7.69 billion in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Fourteen analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $7.41 billion.
For the current quarter ending in September, Advanced Micro said it expects revenue in the range of $8.4 billion to $9 billion.
Advanced Micro shares have risen 44% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $174.31, a climb of 29% in the last 12 months.
