Live cattle futures are mixed, with contracts mostly 20 to 40 cents lower and June up 15 cents. Cash trade has yet to get kicked off this week, with very light action at $233. No sales were reported in the Wednesday Fed Cattle Exchange online auction from Central Stockyards, with 1,652 head listed. Bids were $221-225. Feeder cattle futures are up 47 cents across most of the front months on Wednesday. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was down another 52 cents @ $310.33.Â
National Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were mixed on Wednesday morning, with the Chc/Sel spread widening to $16.37. Choice boxes were up 76 cents to $395.01, while Select was quoted $3.77 lower at $378.64/cwt. USDA’s Federally inspected cattle slaughter for Tuesday was estimated at 118,000 head, with the week to date total at 229,000 head. That is 8,000 head above the week prior but 6,089 head below the same week last year.Â
