Lucid Group (NASDAQ: LCID) is set to significantly increase its manufacturing and development footprint in Arizona with the acquisition of select assets formerly owned by Nikola Corporation. The deal, which is subject to U.S. Bankruptcy Court approval, will see Lucid take over two major facilities and extend job offers to over 300 former Nikola employees.
The acquisition includes Nikola's former headquarters and product development center in Phoenix and a large-scale manufacturing site in Coolidge. Combined, these locations will add more than 884,000 square feet of space to Lucid's operations--most of which is outfitted with advanced manufacturing, warehousing, and testing infrastructure. The facilities feature battery and environmental testing chambers, a full-size chassis dynamometer, machining capabilities, and more.
The move aligns with Lucid's previously announced plans to scale production, particularly as it ramps up output of the Lucid Gravity SUV and prepares for future mid-size EV models. According to Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff, the acquisition offers a "strategic expansion" of Lucid's capabilities while supporting the local Arizona community through job creation.
Employment offers will span technical, engineering, testing, and assembly roles, reflecting Lucid's focus on integrating high-skill talent with electric vehicle expertise into its growing workforce.
The asset purchase follows Nikola Corporation's bankruptcy auction, which concluded on April 10. Lucid is acquiring facilities and equipment, but not Nikola's customer relationships, fuel cell technology, or core business.
Arizona officials praised the deal as a win for the state's fast-growing EV industry. Governor Katie Hobbs and State Senator T.J. Shope highlighted the importance of job continuity and Lucid's continued investment in the region.
