Lean hog futures are mixed at midday, with nearbys sticking withing 17 cents of unchanged. The national average base hog negotiated price was reported at $81.33 on Wednesday morning, up $4.13 from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was reported at $81.46 on January 20, up 6 cents from the previous day.Â
Late on Tuesday, President Trump followed the 25% Mexico and Canada tariff threat with a February 1 start date for potential 10% tariffs on China.
USDA’s FOB plant pork cutout value was 2 cents lower in the Wednesday AM report at $90.80 per cwt. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Tuesday was at 489,000 head, with the week to date total at 963,000 head. That is 52,000 head below last week and down 60,746 head the same week last year.Â
