It is the second major A.I. model to be launched by Anthropic in less than two weeks. The company says Claude Sonnet 4.6 is better at using computers, coding, and processing data.
For Anthropic’s users, both free and paid, Claude Sonnet 4.6 will now serve as their default chatbot and productivity tool.
The company assigns numbers to the models as they advance. Anthropic’s largest A.I. model is called “Opus,” the midsize model is called “Sonnet,” and the smallest model is “Haiku.”
The latest chatbot is being released by Anthropic as its rivalry with competitors OpenAI and Alphabet (GOOGL) intensifies.
There are also rumors Anthropic plans to go public later this year in what would be a blockbuster initial public offering (IPO).
Anthropic launched another A.I. model called “Claude Opus 4.6” only 12 days ago. Analysts say A.I. companies are moving at breakneck speed to deliver enhancements to consumers.
A leading A.I. developer, Anthropic was founded by a group of former OpenAI researchers and executives in 2021.
Anthropic recently announced that it closed a $30 billion U.S. funding round at a $380 billion U.S. valuation, more than double what it was worth in September 2025.
As a private company, Anthropic’s stock does not currently trade on a public exchange.
