
Fat cattle futures are 25 to 32 cents lower in most of the nearby contracts. April is the exception with a 95 cent loss through midday. Feeder cattle are mixed so far with a 95 cent drop in the April and a 22 cent loss in the May; as the deferred contracts are 22 to 35 cents higher. USDA has the bulk of activity near $175 for the South and $182 for the North. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was $203.91, down by $2.32 on 4/19.
USDA’s Wholesale Boxed Beef prices for Friday morning were 22 cents lower in Choice but 42 cents higher in Select. were mixed on Thursday, with Choice back up by $1.07 and Select another $2.72 weaker. USDA estimated the week’s cattle slaughter as 502k head through Thursday. That is up from 489k head last week and 482k during the same week last year.
