
April lean hogs rolled off the board at $71.87. The CME Lean Hog Index was $71.63, down by 32 cents for 4/13. The other front months closed $0.55 to $1.30 higher on the day. The National Average Base Hog price was 33 cents lower on Monday at $68.63.
Pork cutout futures were $0.20 to $1.27 higher at the close on Monday. USDA’s national Pork Carcass Cutout value was 64 cents weaker in the Monday PM quote, at $77.61. Bellies were up by $8.95 to $84.11. The CME Fresh Bacon Index was $103.02 for the week that ended 4/14. USDA estimated Monday’s FI hog slaughter at 462,000 head. That compares to 345k head last week and 356k during the same week last year – both of which were impacted by Easter.
