Front month cattle futures look to back off some into the weekend. Futures are trading 42 to 57 cents lower so far through midday, though April is still a net $4 higher for the week and June is still a net 77 cents higher for the week. June fats are trading at an $11 discount to the in-delivery April. USDA confirmed come moderate cash trade on Thursday, with NE sales from $182-$186. Southern trade was from $175-$177 on the day. Feeder cattle futuresa re mixed at midday with an UNCH quote for May and a 12 cent gain for April. The deferred feeder contracts are triple digits lower so far through Friday. The CME Feeder Cattle Index for 4/12 was $199.77 after a sharp $6.53 increase. Â
The AM Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were $301.93 in Choice and $284.41 in Select; which was a $1.51 and $1.03 increase respectively. The week’s FI cattle slaughter is estimated at 489k head through Thursday. That is 10k head lighter than the same week last year but is 1,000 above last week.Â
