Lean Hogs closed with 50 cent to $1.12 losses on Tuesday. USDA’s National Average Base Hog price for Tuesday afternoon was $2.71 higher to $78.11. The CME Lean Hog Index for 3/10 was up 24 cents from the previous day to $79.86.
The nearby pork cutout futures were down 60 cents. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value was down another 43 cents in the Tuesday PM report at $88.37. The butt, loin, and ham primals were reported lower, with the rest pointing higher. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter at 485,000 head for Tuesday, even with last week. The WTD total is 969,000 head, 23,000 head larger vs. last week and 26,000 head above the same week last year.
