Hogs are down 52 cents to $1.10 so far on Monday. USDA’s National Average Base Hog price for Friday afternoon was $2.85 lower to $74.98. The CME Lean Hog Index for 3/9 was up 23 cents from the previous day to $79.62.
The nearby pork cutout futures also down $1.12. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value was $4.77 higher on Monday morning at $92.57. The belly was on a tear up $19.55. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter at 2.497m head for last week through Saturday. That was down from 2.512m head the previous week but is still up 25k from the same week last year.
