Lean hogs have faded from their earlier highs into the midday quotes, but prices are still up by 2 to 57 cents so far across the board. USDA’s National Average Base Hog price was $72.65 on Friday morning, down by 21 cents. The CME Lean Hog Index from 1/31 was $72.51, after another 7 cent drop.
Pork cutout futures went home with $1 to $1.62 gains. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value was $79.20 in the Friday AM report, down by $2.30. USDA estimated the FI hog slaughter at 1.938m head for the week through Thursday. That compares to 1.954 million last week and 1.792m from the same week last year.
