
Feb hogs are down by 12 cents at midday, but the other front months are mostly higher with gains of as much as 50 cents. USDA’s National Average Base Hog price for Wednesday morning was #2.21 higher at $72.27. The CME Lean Hog Index for 1/23 was 2 cents weaker at $72.11.
Pork cutout futures are down by 15 to 47 cents through midday. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value for the AM update was 57 cents higher to $80.63. USDA estimated the FI hog slaughter at 484k head for Tuesday and 973k head for the week. That compares to 911k head last week and 923k head during the same week last year.
