Robusta Coffee 10-T Futures Market News and Commentary

Favorable Brazil Crop Outlook Weighs on Coffee Prices

May arabica coffee (KCK26) on Monday closed down -2.75 (-0.89%), and May ICE robusta coffee (RMK26) closed down -27 (-0.74%).

Coffee prices settled lower on Monday due to favorable growing conditions in Brazil.  On Monday, Climatempo said that Brazil's soil moisture remains beneficial, while the current dry conditions are aiding cherry ripening.  Also, rain is expected to return to Brazil's key coffee-growing regions this week.

Last Friday, arabica climbed to a 1.5-month high and robusta rose to a 1.5-week high as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz disrupted global shipping and tightened global coffee supplies.  The closure of the waterway has increased global shipping rates, insurance, and fuel costs, and raises costs for coffee importers and roasters.

Robusta coffee has support from tighter inventories, as ICE robusta inventories fell to a 2-month low of 4,257 lots last Friday.
