Natural Gas Prices Move Higher on Forecasts for Warmer Weather

July Nymex natural gas (NGN19) this morning is up by +0.013 (+0.54%) at a 1-week high. Nat gas prices rallied to a 1-week high this morning on the outlook for warmer temperatures in long-range weather forecasts. Commodity Weather Group is forecasting above-normal temperatures for the Midwest and Great Lakes regions during June 27 to July 1. However, the forecasts are for normal temperatures in the eastern half of the U.S. from June 22-26. Gas prices are being undercut by strong U.S. nat-gas production of +7.7% y/y at 85.327 bcf today. Nat-gas prices sank to a 3-year nearest-futures low last Thursday due to high U.S. gas production and high U.S. gas inventories. Last Thursday's weekly EIA inventory report showed that U.S nat-gas supplies rose +102 bcf, which was below expectations of +109 bcf but was still above the 5-year average for this time of year of 92 bcf. Last Thursday's EIA inventory report showed that U.S. nat gas inventories rose by more than their 5-year average for the eleventh consecutive week. Last Thursday's EIA data showed that U.S. nat-gas supplies stood at a 4-1/2 month high of 2.088 bcf as of June 7, up +9.1% y/y but -9.9% below the 5-year average.
