Spring Wheat Futures Market News and Commentary

Wheat Markets Closed Red

After 3 days of gains, front month wheat futures slid into the weekend with givebacks. CBT futures ended 3 to 4 3/4 cents lower on the board. Friday HRW futures closed with 5 to 7 1/2 cent losses. Spring wheat futures ended the session 5 1/4 to 6 cents in the red. From Friday to Friday, KC wheat was up the most with a 4.47% gain, followed by a 2.94% increase in December SRW and a 2.48% bump in HRS futures. 

CFTC’s weekly Commitment of Traders report showed SRW spec traders were 6,005 contracts net short on 9/14. That came after 7 weeks of being net long. In HRW, managed money firms were closing positions through the week ending 9/14. Long liquidation outweighed the fund short covering for a 3,589 contract reduction to the group net long. Managed money was shown at 12,930 contracts net long in spring wheat. That was down 2,717 contracts from week to week.
