Metals Close Higher on Dovish Central Bank Prospects with Weak Stocks and Weak Inflation

Dec Comex gold (GCZ19) on Wednesday closed up +9.6 (+0.66%), and Dec silver (SIZ19) closed up +0.221 (+1.32%).

Precious metals settled higher Wednesday on weak stocks and on weak global price pressures that are dovish for world monetary policy.

Stocks prices traded mostly lower Wednesday after Tuesday's comments from President Trump raised uncertainty about a U.S./China trade deal. President Trump on Tuesday said "tariffs will be raised substantially" if a trade deal is not reached with China. Also, a report from The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday said the trade talks have hit a snag on Chinese ag purchases since China is said to be leery of putting a numerical commitment on ag purchases into the text of a trade deal. President Trump has said China agreed to buy up to $50 billion in U.S. farm products.
