Cotton Sees Profit Taking Pressure to Close the Week

Cotton futures faced pressure to close the week with Friday losses of 19 to 114 points across the board. December still held up for a weekly gain of 303 points. Crude oil was down 9 cents per barrel, with the US dollar index $0.533 higher.

Commitment of Traders data showed managed money adding another 17,173 contracts to their net long in cotton futures and options during the week ending on August 25. That net long stood at 95,841 contracts on Tuesday.

Export Sales data has the 2026/27 cotton export commitment level at 4.332 million RB, which is up 27% from a year ago. That is also 38% of USDA’s export projection, well ahead of the 30% pace last year, but lagging the 5-year average. 

The Seam reported sales of 2,212 bales on Thursday at an average price of 87.19 cents/lb. The Cotlook A Index was up 70 points on August 27 at 98.30 cents. ICE certified cotton stocks were unchanged on 8/27, with the certified stocks level at 66,327 bales. The Adjusted World Price was... Read more
