GovPlanet(SM), an online marketplace dedicated to buying and selling used government assets, sold the first set of High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs), or Humvees, made available to the public by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) at its online auction yesterday, December 17. The event attracted more than 111,000 unique visitors, and final sale prices for the 25 Humvees were as high as $41,000.
"The interest in the Humvees was very strong, exceeding our expectations in terms of participation and pricing," said Randy Berry, senior vice president, operations and services for parent company IronPlanet. "Our online auction drew record attendance and a record number of bidders - many first-timers - to govplanet.com. We are looking forward to selling more Humvees and other equipment from the DoD as our GovPlanet marketplace continues to grow in 2015."
GovPlanet sold all 256 items offered for sale on December 17, including Humvees, cargo trucks, crawler tractors, wheel loaders, utility trailers, day cabs and other DoD rolling stock. From the time pre-auction bidding started on December 3 through the close of auction on December 17, more than 350,000 unique visitors from 132 countries, including all 50 states and Canada, attended the GovPlanet auction.
The Humvees featured on GovPlanet.com include cargo and troop carriers with model numbers M998, M998A1, M1038 and M1038A1. All are "soft sided," or unarmored, vehicles for off-road use only.
GovPlanet plans to sell more Humvees in early 2015 along with other DoD rolling stock, including cargo trucks, tractor trucks, utility trailers, forklifts and construction equipment from 65 Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) sites across the country. Buyers can preview Humvees and other DoD equipment available for purchase at GovPlanet.com's January 7 auction two weeks in advance of the online auction event.
Every item on GovPlanet includes an inspection report with a thorough description of the equipment's condition and features and photos. These reports are backed by IronPlanet's exclusive IronClad Assurance(R) buyer protection program, which guarantees the report is an accurate description of the item's condition.
