    Latest Brugler Lean Hogs (P) Report

    Lean Hogs closed higher on the day but were down $2.22 for the week on the June contract. The CFTC report showed Managed Money went from a net short of 2,933 contracts last week in Lean Hogs to a net long of 8,268 contracts this reporting period. Week to date slaughter is estimated at 2,059,000 head. Cash hogs were $1.12 higher in IA/MN, $0.11 higher in the WCB and $0.09 higher in the ECB. Packers are closed on Monday for the Memorial Holiday. Pork trading was slow with light to moderate demand and offerings. The cutout was down on 30.25 loads. Competition from chicken remains limited, as the major companies are holding back on flock rebuilding activity. Egg sets were 3% below year ago this week, and broiler chick placements were down 4%.
