Live cattle futures finished locked limit down on Monday, pressured by sharply lower global stock markets and concerns about consumer demand. Feeders were also down their $4.50 limit yesterday. The CME Feeder Cattle Index for 2/5 was up 48 cents to $160.15. Last week, cash cattle trade reported average live sales for all grades $134.46, and average dressed sales of $210.29. A few live sales took place between $126-$136 on Friday, and a few dressed sales ranged from $208 to $216. The USDA reported mixed wholesale beef prices last night, as the choice/select spread tightened to $2.23. Choice boxes were down $1.79 to $218.81, but select boxes were up 7 cents to $216.58. FI slaughter on Monday was estimated at 109,000 head, down 2,000 head from both last week and the same day in 2015.
