    Cattle futures are currently trading mixed with the spot contract higher and the other months lower. Week to date slaughter is estimated at 502,000 head. Cash cattle prices remain above the spot futures price with the Five Area Direct prices at $122.50 for all grades in the live and $193.50 for all grades in the dressed as of Thursday. Wholesale beef is lower, with Choice reported 85 cents lower and Select 75 cents lower. Beef exports for the year total 312,700 MT so far compared to 289,000 MT a year ago for the same week. Total beef production is down substantially from 2011.
